Malaysia's fruit export industry continues to grow

Durian – Between 2016 and 2020, durian exports surged by 107%, reaching RM144.7 million ($34.7 million), with China, Hong Kong, and Singapore as primary markets. In 2022, Malaysia produced 455,458 tonnes of durian. The government is pushing for fresh whole durian exports to China in 2024 to strengthen trade ties.

Pineapple – Malaysia's top fruit in 2022, with 537,231 tonnes produced. In 2023, exports totaled 12.8 million kg, generating $5.43 million, mainly to Singapore, the Middle East, and Jordan. The RM1 billion export target for 2025 was surpassed in 2021 when pineapple-related exports hit RM1.106 billion.
